Our Story

David L. Brown, M.D. is a world renowned physician, anesthesiologist, and leading expert on pain management. He practiced medicine for 37 years in both operating rooms and as a physician focusing on chronic and cancer pain. During his career, he held senior leadership positions in some of the world’s most renowned medical establishments, including Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, and the University of Texas - MD Anderson Cancer Center. He was most recently Chairman of the Anesthesiology Institute at Cleveland Clinic.

At the peak of his career, Dave almost died from multi-organ failure in his own ICU. His illness gave him and his family a first-hand look at how powerful incentives inside our health system quickly overpower the unique values and goals of individual patients.

As he observed healthcare delivery through “patient eyes,” it also became clear to Dave that individuals and families were struggling to navigate our healthcare systems. He came to understand more clearly how the ill individual was so often forced to fit into established algorithms and protocols, rather than be allowed to make decisions that resulted in the care they needed and wanted.

Armed with a physician’s brain and a patient’s heart, Dave founded Curadux in the Fall of 2015. He dedicated himself and the company to making life better for others faced with illness.

Curadux’s Core Values

Our values are not just words for us. They correlate with our actions day in and day out, both inside and outside the company. They are the backbone of our culture. They are Trust, Honesty, Empathy, Impact, and Dignity, and here’s how they translate into what we do for you.

1Trust

Integrity, reliability, character, reputation

All Curadux associates will be trustworthy by telling the truth, doing what we say we’re going to do, and never deceiving others. Curadux Care Guides will be trusted by our Members to provide the guidance they seek by being factual and by displaying integrity in all interactions. We can’t have corporate integrity without personal integrity. Each and every associate working with us must be a person of strong moral character. We realize that trust takes time to establish, yet can be dashed in an instant. Being trusted and trustworthy will go a long way towards establishing and maintaining a strong Curadux reputation.

2Honesty

Realistic, truthful, fair, transparent, open, listening, personal accountability

Honesty is important in any company, but especially essential in a company like Curadux, which is built on personal interactions. This means that our Care Guides will provide a realistic picture for Members, answering questions honestly about issues like side effects of treatments, probabilities of success, and possible consequences. Care Guides will listen with honesty, which will require their openness. If one of us makes a mistake, we will own up to it and take personal accountability. In addition to just plain telling the truth, honesty to us also means being transparent, clear and straightforward.

3Empathy

Caring, compassionate, insightful

In addition to playing a positive role in empowering Members to obtain the care they need and want, we intend to go a significant step further and brighten their lives. Illness is challenging. We start off our relationship by showing each Member that we truly care about them. Being empathetic — understanding each Member, being sensitive to their feelings, and vicariously experiencing their journey — is how we will gain important insights into the whole human being with whom we are communicating. We will be compassionate as well, which means showing our willingness to relieve the Member’s stress and suffering. We will also extend empathy and compassion to our Members’ families and their caregivers.

4Impact

Influence positively, be creative, make a difference

We will resolve problems, make connections, and share knowledge in order to positively impact our Members’ lives. We will think creatively. By encouraging the introspection of each Member, we will learn what’s most important to them. Care Guides will bring their physician wisdom to bear in each situation, which along with the Members’ personal goals and values, will make a difference in Members’ lives.

5Dignity

Autonomy, respect, every human is valuable and worthy

Dignity means acknowledging each Member’s value and worth. This is central to our mission. Autonomy translates into giving our Members voice in determining the healthcare choices that are right for them. This dignity and autonomy are enabled through Care Guide education and a keen understanding of each Member. Even though many people don’t have the skill to sort out medical choices on their own, they nonetheless do know their own bodies, their treatment tolerances, and what is most important to them. We respect our Members’ right to the information which allows them to understand their treatment and care, and to make their own choices.
